This house started as the Cherrydale kit. I didn’t build it–it was built by the MIL of a colleague back when I worked at a small publishing company. My colleague’s MIL had passed away, she knew I liked miniatures, and she asked if I wanted to buy it. I said yes, and came away with not only the house, partially finished, but boxes and boxes of minis! It was like Christmas.

The original builders had put the house together nicely, adding the wing and finishing the first floor and part of the second with wallpaper and flooring.

I added flooring and wallpaper where there wasn’t any, and thought about how to set up the house.

I decided on a B&B, basing it on several very elegant B&Bs I’ve stayed in (two in Austin, TX, and one in La Jolla, CA). The furnishings came both from the shoeboxes of minis I’d acquired, plus things I bought for it. I landscaped the entire exterior, as nothing had been done on that.

The boxes had contained many, many vintage-style toys, so I decided that the owners of the B&B decorated their rooms with vintage toys. You’ll see them scattered over the house.

I had hours of pleasure restoring and redoing this house, and I hope the ladies who originally worked on it know what joy it has brought this miniaturist.
